Muhoroni Youth chairman Moses Adagala has vowed to defy a directive from the Kenyan Premier League ordering a replay of his team’s round of 15 match against Chemelil Sugar.
The KPL management issued a directive on Monday ordering the match be played afresh since the centre referee had been changed at the last minute and without following due process.
Chemelil Sugar, who were guests and ended up suffering a 1-0 loss in that game, lodged a formal complain to KPL on Monday stating that although Amos Ichingwa had been initially appointed to officiate the match, it’s Israel Mpaima who presided over the game with no explanation given.
Responding to the directive, Adagala said that he would not give in to KPL’s directive as that would be akin to paying for someone else’s misgivings.
“The appointment of referees has never been the responsibility of my club. It’s the responsibility of the Federation,” charged Adagala. “This is just a war between KPL and the federation and we shall not be drawn into it. Let them square it out on their own. We are not replaying any game.”
KPL has given Muhoroni up to close of business Wednesday to appeal the decision, but Adagala retorted by saying that that there is nothing to appeal over.
“Our work is to play, and we did that under the referees that were provided for us. Why should we waste time appealing? In any case, what is there to appeal over?” the angry club official posed.
With the standoff still persisting at close of business yesterday, KPL’s Safety and Security Officer GMT Ottieno said that the matter will be forwarded to the Independent Disciplinary and Complains Committee (IDCC) for arbitration.
