Nakumatt FC booked a place in the GOtv Shield Cup final after eliminating Gor Mahia 4-2 on post-match penalties at the Safaricom Kasarani Stadium on Wednesday.

The two teams had settled for a 1-1 stalemate at fulltime, with John Njoroge cancelling out Michael Olunga’s first-half opener for K’Ogalo.

Cornelius Juma, alongside former Gor defender Donald Mosoti, Peter Nzuki and Mustafa Seif converted the spot kicks for the victors while Ali Hassan Abondo and Enoch Agwanda were on target for Gor.

Nakumatt’s reserve custodian Zamu Adisa, who replaced Wycliffe Kasaya late on specifically for the penalty contest, saved Godfrey Walusimbi’s kick, while Meddie Kagere's attempt missed the target.

The Football Kenya Federation Premier League outfit will now face Bandari in the final on Sunday with the winner set to represent the country in the Caf Confederation Cup next season.

DISAPPOINTED

The winner of this clash will be also awarded with Sh2 million prize money alongside a winner’s trophy and medals plus.

"We are disappointed by this result, we really wanted to win all the three main trophies this year. But then, in penalties anything can happen and to be honest we did not expect this match to go this far,” Gor skipper Jerim Onyango said after the match.

The build up to this rescheduled match was dominated by speculation that Gor Mahia players would boycott the match over a pay dispute. The players confirmed the same, resulting into the match organisers being forced to delay the kick off by an hour.

When the tie finally got underway, both teams looked rusty and took time to settle. It was until a couple of missed chances later that Olunga scored the opener courtesy of a well taken free kick five minutes to half time.

Nakumatt levelled matters through Njoroge’s composed finish after a sweeping team move after the breather.
