Nandwa’s Coastal Union crush hosts Mombasa

Former Sofapaka striker Itubu Imbem scored a double as the visiting Coastal Union from Tanga, Tanzania registered a fine 3-1 victory over Mombasa Combined during a friendly match at Mombasa Sports Club at the weekend.

It took Mombasa Combined 15 minutes to take the lead when Makame Salim headed home a cross from Shaaban Kenga.

But former Congo United and Gor Mahia midfielder, Rama Salim (right) levelled in the 32nd.

The same player made it 3-1 in the 73rd minute from a penalty kick.

Former AFC Leopards coach, James Nandwa, who is now handling Coastal Union, said he was satisfied with the performance of his players, praising them for playing according to his instructions.

“I’ve been impressed with the performance of the team which played with team spirit and determination against Mombasa Combined and they played as per my instructions,” said Nandwa who is confident of his team finishing in a top position in the Premier League.

Mombasa-born Salim said he was surprised to see very few football fans turning up to watch the game which he described as a thrilling clash.

“I fail to understand as to why Coast soccer fans fail to come to watch this good match,” said Salim at the end of the match.
