Football Kenya Federation’s (FKF) third Annual General Meeting (AGM) delegates will now be held on August 28 in Nairobi. The federation announced this yesterday through a press statement, adding that the agenda will be sent to delegates ‘a month before the meeting’.

“Following the aborted AGM that was scheduled for June 26, in Kisii County, notice is hereby given to all members pursuant to the provision of Article 26 (1) (2) (3) of the FKF constitution, that the third annual general meeting will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 in Nairobi,” FKF CEO, Michael Esakwa, said in a statement.

“The agenda of the General meeting will be sent to all the members 30 days before the date of the Annual General Meeting as provided for in Article 26 (3) of FKF constitution. The list of delegates will be published seven days before the date of the meeting.”

A section of the National Executive Committee led by Doris Petra and Tom Alila has however opposed the new date, saying rules were not followed.

Did not follow constitution
“Delegates should ignore that letter because it is an illegality. The constitution is clear that the entire NEC must meet and decide on the dates. We did not approve those dates,” Petra told Daily Nation Sport.
Another NEC member, Tom Alila, said: “After the meeting aborted on Friday, it was agreed that the council shall meet and decide on the new dates for the meeting. This is an ambush. The constitution must be followed.” The AGM had earlier been scheduled for last Friday at the Sameta Lodge in Kisii, but FKF boss Sam Nyamweya called it off before any deliberations could be made, citing security concerns. Nyamweya claimed that instead of the expected 78 delegates, more than 400 had turned up.

“We are seeing strange faces not seen in the Kenyan football scene before. This meeting cannot go on because there is a real risk of violence against the delegates if we carry on,” he said.

Should delegates agree on a date, one of the most critical issues expected to be discussed in the AGM is the reinstatement of the Kenyan Premier League Limited, which was suspended at the beginning of the year at the heat of the public spat between FKF and the league body. The other thorny issue up for debate is the proposed review of the life ban on former officials Hussein Swaleh Hussein aka Hussein Terry, as well as the six years sanction on Dan Shikanda.
