Kenyan Premier League side Tusker crashed out of the GOtv Shield Cup in the third round after losing 8-7 in penalty shoot-outs to Nzoia United in Kisumu.

KPL sides Bandari and Sony Sugar, however, asserted their superior status by beating Administration Police and West Kenya Sugar respectively to storm the quarter-finals of the knock-out tourney.

In Kisumu, the brewers settled for a 1-1 draw with FKF Premier League side Nzoia at the end of regular time, and they were eventually tossed out of the competitions in the ensuing penalty shoot-out.

Mark Bikokwa had scored from the spot in the 30th minute to hand Nzoia the lead, but Clifford Alwanga replied 10 minutes to time for the brewers.

In Mombasa, Farid Mohammed and Shariff Mohammed helped Bandari to a 2-1 win over Administration Police at the Mombasa County Stadium, while Salim Babu’s fine run with Sony Sugar continued with a 2-1 win over West Sugar.

Bandari snatched their first goal through Farid Mohamed “Zidane” in the 31st minute, and they stretched this lead in the 69th minute through defender Mohamed Shariff.

Dickson Wambugu reduced the deficit for the Police barely five minutes before the final whistle.

The home team regained their lead when Duncan Otewa overlapped on the left and crossed the ball for Mohamed to send a powerful shot past the helpless AP goalie John Mulera.

After the half time break, Bandari maintained their dominance but their forwards Victor Ndinya and George Abege repeatedly missed the target.

It was in the 69th minute that Bandari doubled the scores through Mohamed Shariff, who scored from a rebound that came about after Mulera punched the ball back into the field of play. This goal was vigorously disputed by AP players.
