Hosts Mombasa Olympic Ladies FC put up another sterling performance on Saturday to register a 3-0 victory over the visiting Mathare United Ladies FC in Football Kenya Federation women’s Premier League match at Mbaraki Sports Club.

The home team got all their three goals in the first half. Harambee Starlets prolific striker Mwanahalima Adam scored a brace in the match, with Dorothy Akinyi netting another goal in the one-sided match.

IMPRESSED COACH

Olympic head coach Joseph Oyoo said he was impressed with the way his players played according to his instructions.

“We could have won by a bigger margin had my players utilised the chances that came their way especially in the last 45 minutes,” said Oyoo.

Mathare coach, Bonface Omondi, said his players were affected by the humid weather in Mombasa.

“We did not play well in the first half. My girls tried their best in the second session but strikers failed to penetrate their backline,” Omondi said.

It was the second victory for Olympic who in their league opener, managed to beat their Coast rivals Spedag Ladies 3-2 a week ago at Mombasa Sports Club.

In Saturday’s clash, the visitors started on a high note but they squandered a golden chance in the third minute to take the lead when Maren Atieno produced a superb through ball to release Anne Aluoch, but the midfielder shot wide.

FELL BEHIND

In the eighth minute of the match, Mathare fell behind when Mwanahalima converted Olympic’s first chance of the match, hammering high into the net from Winfred Akinyi’s cross.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 18th minute when Gererder Akinyi, Elizabeth Katungwa and Nuru Mustafa’s fine combination found Mwanahalima, who controlled the ball and composed herself to fire home a low strike past Mathare goalie Jenipher Adhiambo.

The third goal came in the 39th minute after Dorothy Akinyi was fouled inside the box. She took the penalty herself and confidently beat Adhiambo between the posts.
