Bandari FC put up another poor performance on Sunday, losing 1-0 to visiting Chemelil Sugar in a SportPesa Premier League match at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.

It was Shaphan Sina who gave Chemelil the only goal of the match in the first half in which the visitors came close but missed a number of scoring opportunities. And Chemelil Sugar coach, Juma Abdalla Swaleh was a happy man after the match, saying his team played a tactical game.

“We played a defensive game after scoring today, and that worked for us. The three points put us in a better position,” said Swaleh. The coach said he had laid a good plan to deliver victory as they seek to finish among the top eight teams at the end of the league.

And for the first time, Bandari head coach, Paul Nkata refused to talk to the press, and instead kept mum amid a barrage of questions from journalists.

The game started at a slow pace, with Chemelil going all out to secure an early goal. But they were made to wait until the 20th minute when a corner taken by Peter Kyata was headed home by Sina.

A minute later, Bandari got a golden chance to draw level when Siraj Mohamed made a fine cross from the flanks for the club’s Tanzanian import Cosmas Lewis but the player sent a powerful shot which was however brilliantly saved by Chemelil’s John Wawu.

In the 47th minute, Chemelil’s John Mwita almost gave his side the second goal when he took a free-kick which went wide.
