Posta Rangers coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno is the Fidelity Insurance Coach of the Month for April.

The former national team coach led his charges to third place in the Kenyan Premier League after 12 rounds of matches with three wins and two draws in April.

Otieno led Rangers to three victories over Ushuru, Tusker and Ulinzi Stars in April with two draws away to Bandari and Thika United, results which propelled his newly promoted side to third on the league standings.

Speaking after the receiving a Sh50,000 cheque and a trophy at the Railways Club on Tuesday, a delighted Zico said the award would serve as motivation not just to himself but to the entire team.

“This is a great achievement for me, the players and other members of the technical bench too. We have worked hand in hand since the beginning of the season and the results are now out there for all to see,” said the former Gor Mahia and Sony Sugar coach.

In a vote conducted by Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK), Zico beat Marcelo Ferreira (Gor Mahia), James Omondi (Muhoroni Youth), Paul Nkata (Tusker) and James Nandwa (Thika United) all of whom made it to the shortlist for the award.

The former Sony Sugar and Gor Mahia coach became the third recipient of the award after Mathare United's Francis Kimanzi (February) and AFC Leopards' Ivan Minnaert (March).
