The campaign for votes ahead of next week’s Football Kenya Federation national elections took a surprise twist on Thursday after teams aligned to incumbent federation president Sam Nyamweya and that of Ambrose Rachier disclosed a possible merger.

Rachier met 40 delegates drawn from various regions and clubs during a campaign in Eldoret when this possible alignment emerged.

This comes just seven days to the national elections that are scheduled for Wednesday in Nairobi.

Some of the delegates who attended Rachier’s 'Team Kenya' launch at an Eldoret hotel Thursday were from Nyamweya’s camp.

It is however not clear whether Nyamweya will drop his bid in support of Rachier for the top seat since or vice versa.

A source in the Nyamweya’s camp said there has been no agreement made so far between the two camps yet.

“We are speaking the language of football here. This is football, and every match gives teams liberty to do substitutions,” Coast Region FKF National Executive Council member Mohamed Omar said.

FKF executive committee member Sammy Mugo, a close ally of Nyamweya, said: “We are joining forces to see how well to realise victory on Wednesday.”

When asked about the merger talks with Nyamweya, Rachier neither confirmed nor denied the matter, only saying: “I would rather not talk about it now”.
