Sofapaka coach Sam Ssimbwa is the Fidelity Insurance SportPesa Premier League Coach of the Month for August.

The Ugandan beat Gor Mahia’s British tactician Dylan Kerr, who had also been nominated by a panel of sports journalists for his exemplary performance in that month.

For his efforts, the 50-year old Ssimbwa received a Sh75,000 cash prize and a trophy, after which he said that all is not lost in their push for the title despite being 12 points behind runaway league leaders Gor Mahia with five games left.

“We started the league as underdogs but it’s commendable how far we’ve come in the second leg. There is a slim mathematical possibility of getting to the title but Gor Mahia have a huge advantage. Anything is possible in football though, and all we need to do is just win our remaining matches," said Ssimbwa during a brief award presentation ceremony at the team’s training ground in Eastleigh High School.

“I have won such awards in Uganda and Rwanda but winning it here gives me so much joy. Credit to my players who worked hard all through and the other members of the technical bench who assist me."

Ssimbwa led Batoto ba Mungu to four victories and one draw in August, and the team managed to score a total of 15 goals.

The 2009 champions edged out Muhoroni Youth 3-2 away before dismissing league strugglers Thika United 3-0 at home. Sofapaka then dismissed Nakumatt 5-2 in a seven-goal thriller. And their fourth victory was a 3-1 win over Nzoia Sugar before their 1-1 draw with Posta Rangers wrapped up their August activities.
