What you need to know:

  • Wasswa was formerly with Kampala City Council (KCC).
  • The fate of club head coach Sam Timbe, who is still away in his native country Uganda on holiday, remains unclear.

Sofapaka have completed two foreign signings to help fill up the gap left by the departure of four key players.

The two are Ugandan duo Joseph Owino, who joins from Tanzanian side Simba on a three-year deal and Herman Wasswa, who has penned a two-year contract.

Wasswa was formerly with Kampala City Council (KCC).

The capture of the duo follows the exit departure of four key players in Abdoul Fiston, who found greener pastures with South African top tier side Mamelodi Sundowns, Eli Asieche (KCB), Danson Kago (Tusker) and Enock Agwanda (Gor Mahia).

Speaking to Sunday Nation Sport on Saturday, club president Elly Kalekwa confirmed the arrival of the two, but was quick to add that he was closing in on two unnamed Burundians to further bolster the squad.

The Congolese business magnet has formed penchant of signing foreigners at the expense of local talents and his new recruitment is a strong pointer that his transfer policy is not about to change any time soon.

Other foreign legion at the reigning GOtv Shield champions are Evariste Mutuyimana (Rwanda), Johnson Bagoole, David Bagoole (all Uganda), Abdoul Yourou (Togo)and Felly Mulumba, Heritier Luvualu, Blessing Henshaw, Lwamba Mulondwa (all registered as refugees).

However, as he ropes in new players the fate of club head coach Sam Timbe, who is still away in his native country Uganda on holiday, remains unclear.

The award winning tactician has been away on holiday with speculation rife that he may return to Sofapaka, but in phone interview from Kampala yesterday, the soft spoken trainer remained reserved.

“I still have a small problem but will be coming to Nairobi soon,” he said without elaborating.

Pressed further, he added: “I know that my contract is running out (at the end of the month) but that is not my issue, ask the president. In football anything can happen.”
