Former champions Sofapaka humiliated Thika United 3-0 in a lop-sided SportPesa Premier League match at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru County on Sunday.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Umaru Kasumba, Hillary Echesa and Rodgers Aloro struck in the second half as Batoto ba Mungu terrorised their opponents with brilliant attacking football.

Sofapaka, who were under the guidance of assistant coach John Baraza who is standing in for head coach Sam Ssimbwa who is away, grabbed the opener through Kasumba nine minutes into the second half.

Echesa, who had just replaced Kennedy Oduor, doubled their advantage after tapping into an empty net from Kasumba’s pass.

Baraza then made two quick changes, bringing in Meshack Karani and Wesley Onguso for Kasumba and Morvin Otinya while Thika coach Nicholas Muyoti introduced Abdallah Asad, Adam Edmond and Francis Muturi.

Echesa, who missed their 3-2 midweek win over Muhoroni Youth due to injury, could have added a third in the 65th minute but shot wide while it was easier to score.

Aloro completed the rout 10 minutes from time.

Muyoti blamed the big loss to poor marking by his defenders.

"We made silly mistakes in the second half and this was our main undoing," said coach Muyoti.
