Sony Sugar 3-1 Sofapaka: Monda and Ssekayombya strikes send Salim Babu's men to Top 8 final

Sony Sugar on Wednesday stormed the Kenyan Premier League Top 8 tournament final after bundling out Sofapaka following a 3-1 win in the return leg semi-final match at the Nyayo National Stadium.

The victory came in the wake of a two-all draw in the first leg at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru and Wedensday's win saw Sony breeze to the final on a 5-3 aggregate.

Sony raided Sofapaka’s goal mouth in the early stages and after several early misses, Justine Monda summoned the skill to put the ball in the back of the net at the half-hour mark with a lovely dink from the box which left Sofapaka goalie David Okello stranded in his area.

Sony continued attacking with much venom and with the tide going their way, Andrew Ssekayombya headed in the second four minutes to the break after making a neat connection with a Robert Omonuk cross from the left flank.

Three minutes later, celebrations were at the opposite goalmouth after Felly Mulumba gave Sofapaka some hope converting from the spot in the 44th minute after Kwazera Hamadu had handled in the box but his effort was rendered meaningless when Collins Shivachi scored in his own goal three minutes to time.

Ssekayombya had blazed above the bar midway through the first half and Alfred Onyango and Omonuk were dnied by the woodwork in the second.

“Everybody worked hard for this win, we took our chances and I'm very happy. I've been at Sony for six months and I'm elated to play in the final," Sony keeper Allan Owiny said after the win.
