Southampton's Schneiderlin out for season

LONDON

Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin will not play again this season, because of a knee problem, the Premier League club's manager, Ronald Koeman, said Thursday.

The 25-year-old Frenchman suffered the injury during during the 2-2 league draw with Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, with subsequent scans indicating he could be out of action for at least a month.

"Morgan will be out until the end of the season, for four or five weeks," Koeman said.

Southampton travel to relegation-threatened Sunderland on Saturday, with the south coast club aiming to continue their push for European football.

The Saints are in seventh place, but only a point behind both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
