St John’s win in girls’ football but Kakamega, Kisumu Day held

St John’s Kaloleni Girls’ football team registered an impressive 4-0 victory over Yabongo Senior School to increase their chances of making it into the last four in the Brookside East Africa Secondary Schools games at the police grounds Tuesday.

This happened as Kakamega High settled for a barren draw with Mvara Secondary of Tanzania in an ill-tempered match which saw the referee flash four yellow cards and a red card.

Kisumu Day also failed to impress, settling for a barren draw in their second match against Tanzania’s Nyerere High.

In volleyball, Hospital Hill sailed into the quarter-finals without breaking a sweat after they were given a walk-over against Mbogo Mixed from Uganda, who showed up for the match without a playing kit.

Hospital Hill had earlier beaten Makongo of Tanzania 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-21). Cheptil High were however not lucky going down in straight sets to St Marys Kitende from Uganda.

TIGOI GIRLS ELIMINATED

The Ugandans, who have a number of Kenyans in their line-up, took the first set 25-17 and never looked back, winning the other sets 25-22, 25-18.

Defending boys’ volleyball champions Malava continued their winning ways beating Kinawa from Uganda 3-1.

In girls’ basketball, defending champions Shimba Hills won their second match, beating Lycee de Tanganyika from Burundi 54-37.

The other Kenyan representatives, Tigoi Girls, were eliminated after losing 73-72 to Kizuka High of Tanzania.

In boys’ basketball, Upper Hill beat ETS Kamenge of Rwanda 74-49 while in handball, St Francis Chepterit floored Lycee Ratovu 18-06.
