St John’s Girls hire ex-Stars goalie trainer

St John’s Girls Kaloleni football team has hired former Harambee Stars goalkeeper trainer Razak Siwa ahead of for the Airtel Rising Stars National Secondary Schools Term Two ‘B’ Games slated for Kakamega from August 5.

Siwa is expected to prepare the two goalkeepers, Lilian Nzaka and Cynthia Oloo ahead of the games.

“We have a strong team and all players are in top form. We’re giving Siwa the responsibility of training our goalkeepers so they can perform well in Kakamega,” head coach Joseph Oyoo said on Saturday.

Siwa who has previously trained Bandari and Tanzania’s Yanga goalkeepers, said he was happy with the appointment. “I’ve found Lilian and Cynthia to be good goalkeepers and I have high hopes they will do well in Kakamega,” Siwa said.

Oyoo who led St John’s to their second consecutive victory at the Mombasa Regional games which ended in Kwale a fortnight ago said they are keen to win the national crown on their second attempt.

“We didn’t do well last year because it was our first time at the national games. But my girls have the experience now and we are going flat out this time,” Oyoo said.

The team has no injury concerns. “After playing series of warm up matches, we are now all set for the games,” he added.

Team captain Mercy Ojiambo is confident they can win the title in Kakamega. “We are among the top contenders for the national title and I ask football fans from Coast to pray for us,” she said.

“We will be in Kakamega, not just for the sake of it, but among the favourites to win.

We have trained hard and we believe we can come back home with the trophy,” said Mercy.
