What you need to know:

  • Teams use every trick in the book in battle for survival.
  • After beating Tusker, team now focuses on Saturday’s match against Zoo Kericho in relegation fight.

After winning their last match against deposed champions Tusker at the weekend, Thika United have another chance to claw their way out of the relegation quagmire when they will travel to face Zoo Kericho in Kisumu on Saturday.

Speaking to Nation Sport on Tuesday, Thika United manager Vincent Nyaberi said that their victory over Tusker has boosted their morale ahead of their last two matches of the season.

“It’s not normal for us to be in this position but we will do our best to remain in the league,” Nyaberi said.

Thika have been struggling for form this year, but are unbeaten in their last six matches – with three wins and as many draws. On Sunday, they beat Tusker 1-0 to gain ground in the fight against relegation.

OOZING CONFIDENCE

And Thika United goalkeeper Eliud Emase also remains confident that the team will play in the SportPesa Premier League next season.

“The team morale is high and we believe we shall win our two remaining games,” Emase said.

The fight for survival this term seems set to head to the wire with only five points separating 17th-placed Western Stima and 13th-placed Zoo Kericho.

Thika United are 16th on the log and have two more matches to play, same as 15th placed Mathare United. The Thika-based side will host Bandari in their last match of the season at Thika Sub-County Stadium.
