JOHANNESBURG

Tanzanian Thomas Ulimwengu dealt a severe blow Tuesday to the hopes of Tanzanian club Young Africans reaching the Caf Confederation Cup semi-finals for the first time.

The national team striker scored after 75 minutes at the national stadium in Dar es Salaam to give Democratic Republic of Congo club TP Mazembe a 1-0 win over the local team.

Success in the Tanzanian capital, coupled with a home win over Medeama of Ghana nine days ago, gave the Lubumbashi 'Ravens' a maximum six points in Group A after two rounds.

It was also the first away victory for the Congolese in four Caf matches this year after drawing in Ethiopia and losing in Morocco and Tunisia.

Defeat for Young Africans, the first Tanzanian club to reach the group stage, left them pointless after two match-days having also lost away to Mouloudia Bejaia in Algeria.

Each club plays six group matches — three at home and three away — and those finishing first and second advance to the semi-finals.
