Briton Trevor James Morgan leads the race to land the job of head coach at AFC Leopards.

Club secretary George Aladwa on Wednesday said Leopards are happy with Morgan’s credentials but a final decision will not be made until end of the week.

Others who are also in the running for the job that fell vacant two weeks ago following the sacking of James Nandwa and his assistant Mickey Weche are Italian Emmanuelle Filippini and Burundi national team coach Lofty Naseem. Already, former KCB coach Abdalla Juma has been appointed the assistant coach.
IMPRESSED BY MORGAN

“I don’t want to pre-empt the decision to be reached by the executive but I have personally been impressed by Trevor Morgan,” said Aladwa.

“We will make a final decision by the end of the week as a committee and unveil the new coach next week. I cannot categorically state who among the three will be the next coach of AFC Leopards because that issue will definitely go for a vote. All the three are good coaches,” he said.

This in effect locks out former Gor Mahia and outgoing Simba coach Zdravko Logarusic from the race for Leopards’ hot seat.

Initially, Filippini had been touted to take over the position but Aladwa said it is prudent for Leopards to consider all the applicants before making a decision. Morgan has largely coached in India and is arguably the best foreign coach to have ply his trade in the country.
