What you need to know:

  • The Kenyan Premier League leaders have blown hot and cold in their pursuit for the gong.
  • The win hauled the brewers’ points tally to 44, opening up a seven-point gap over them and Gor Mahia, who are in second place.
  • AFC Leopards were held to a barren draw by Nairobi City Stars, who recorded their seventh draw of the campaign.
  • In Kisumu, Muhoroni Youth were handed a 3-0 hiding by Western Stima.

Gritty Tusker on Sunday overcame a plucky Kakamega  Homeboyz with a 1-0  win at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru to continue their charge at an 11th league crown.

The Kenyan Premier League leaders have blown hot and cold in their pursuit for the gong. Forgotten winger Danson Kago was the toast of the afternoon with his delightful finish in the 66th minute after getting on the end of Cersidy Lumumba’s defence splitting pass to fire home.

The win hauled the brewers’ points tally to 44, opening up a seven-point gap over them and Gor Mahia, who are in second place.

Homeboyz, too, gave a good account of themselves, however, they wasted chances. In the 36th minute Andrew Murunga failed to convert an easy chance with only Tusker goalie David Okello to beat.

On resumption, Tusker were reduced to 10 men when George Mandela was given his marching orders by referee Nyabera Libese for a second bookable offence.

BARREN DRAW

At the same venue, AFC Leopards were held to a barren draw by Nairobi City Stars, who recorded their seventh draw of the campaign.

At the Ruaraka grounds in Nairobi, Timothy Otieno announced his arrival from a long injury lay off with a superb 25th minute arrowed shot for Rangers that complicated Sofapaka’s relegation fight as they went down 1-0.

Sofapaka’s president Elly Kalekwa cheered on as his side threw every other weapon at the mailmen but luck was not on their side.

Veteran midfielder Moses “Dube” Odhiambo was Sofapaka’s dangerman, he made a number of attempts at goal but did not find the mark.

“Dube” was denied by Patrick Matasi in Rangers’ goal in the first half and watched in disbelief as the ball was cleared off the line.

In Kisumu, Muhoroni Youth were handed a 3-0 hiding by Western Stima. Fredrick Nyarombo, Kenneth Muguna and the ageless Francis Ochola all scored a goal apiece.
