Ten-time champions Tusker extended their lead at the summit of the Kenyan Premier League table to five points with a 2-0 win over Mathare United at the Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani on Saturday.

Earlier on at the Mumias Sports Complex, substitute Kepha Aswani struck twice as AFC Leopards rallied from two goals down to edge out Ushuru 3-2 in a thrilling match.

In Nakuru, Sony Sugar thumped Western Stima 3-0 in another league encounter at the Afraha Stadium.

In Mumias, Aswani scored two in between Bernard Ongoma’s stunner in the second half onslaught as they cancelled out first half efforts from Ushuru’s Maurice Odipo and Dennis Wafula.

Ushuru had gone ahead in the 18th minute through Odipo who had turned in a corner past Ingwe custodian Ian Otieno. Wafula doubled the scores 11 minutes later, much to the frustration of the home fans.

The 13-time champions however turned the game on its head in the second half, with Aswani and Ongoma finding the back of the net in just 14 minutes to give Ivan Minaert’s charges victory.

The kick off for the Tusker and Mathare match was delayed for over half an hour as the match officials awaited for the arrival of the match day ambulance.

However, when the ambulance finally arrived, Tusker needed just four minutes to find the opener, with Clifford Alwanga beating Mathare custodian Robert Mboya with a long range shot.

Coach Francis Kimanzi’s boys failed to provide any meaningful response, and were constantly on the back foot as the brewers pushed for a second goal.

Kenyan international striker Allan Wanga doubled the scores for Tusker 10 minutes after the restart, after capitalising on Mathare’s poor defending.

The win pushed Paul Nkata’s Tusker to 40 points, five ahead of second-placed Gor Mahia, who host Bandari today at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Salim Babu's sugarmillers opened the floodgates in the 16th minute when Masoud Juma caught Western Stima custodian Levis Opiyo napping with a stunner inside the box for a 1-0 half time lead.

On resumption, Sony stretched the lead in the 70th minute through Victor Ademba with a powerful shot before Amos Asembeka completed the rout late on.
