Tusker shift base as Kinoru closed for refurbishment

Tusker FC have reverted to the Ruaraka grounds for their home matches following the closure of Kinoru Stadium for six months for renovation.

The club's chief executive Charles Obiny on Friday said the club will liaise with the Meru County government to re-open Kinoru stadium with an international match after the Sh200 million facelift.

Speaking to the Nation on phone, Obiny said: “We will talk to governor Peter Munya so that we can invite a team from outside the country for the re-opening of the stadium.”

“If the county government agrees we will open the stadium with an international match. We can also invite four teams to come to Meru for the pre-season tournament in January,” he added.

WIN OVER KCB

Due to the rehabilitation of Kinoru Stadium, Tusker played their mid-week Kenyan Premier League match on Wednesday at Ruaraka grounds where they beat relegation-threatened KCB 2-0. The team will however hosts teams at the Safaricom Kasarani Stadium for high-profile league and cup games.

“However, we will be back to our home ground in Meru once the reconstruction of the stadium is complete. We like to play in Meru because we have a lot of fans there."

The CEO said Tusker FC likes the passion of Meru fans and appreciate their support for the team. The 2014 KPL Top 8 winners moved base to Kinoru following a request by the county government and locals.

“Tusker’s switch to Meru and establishment of the Meru Youth Talent Academy last September shows that the county is serious about promoting sports,” Mwiti said.
