Kenyan international striker Michael Olunga struck four times for Gor Mahia as the defending champions beat Chemelil Sugar 4-1 at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru on Saturday.

The youngster’s stellar performance commanded a standing ovation from the team’s travelling fans who showered him with cash after the match.

“I am so happy that we have started the second leg on such a high note.  It was a tough match but I thank God we have won just as we had promised our coach,” the thrilled Olunga said.

“When I woke up this morning I told my brother (Victor Olunga) that I had a feeling today I will score many goals and true to my words I have the highest number of goals in a single match.

“I dedicate this goals to him, my mum and the entire family for their support,” he added.

Olunga fired past goalkeeper Jairus Adira in the 36th minute. However, this lead was short lived as Daniel Murage put the sugar miller on equal footing with a sharp finish to Boniface Oluoch's 10-match consecutive clean sheets in the league.

Olunga, whose goal tally has now climbed to league leading 11, put the game beyond Chemelil with goals in the 52nd, 59th, 72nd and 82nd minute.

“It was a good comeback after a long break and I am happy for the sweet victory and I hope the boys will sustain the good run in the second leg,” said a visibly happy Gor coach Frank Nuttall.

TROUBLED LEOPARDS

At Thika County Stadium, home side Thika United edged out AFC Leopards 1-0 in a match blighted by violent conduct from Ingwe fans.

The stadium was reduced to a battle field as police officers engaged AFC Leopards yobs in running battles as their team trailed hosts Thika United 1-0 in a the tension-filled match.

Teargas fumes filled the air as helpless players and journalists suffered collateral damage from the mayhem.

The stadium in the end became a rescue ground as players, ball boys, journalists and television production crew lay on the ground in a desperate bid to escape the choking fumes.

The match was stopped twice because of violent conduct from the stands.

Until things degenerated to the ugly scenes, the absorbing duel had otherwise lived to its billing and it was Thika’s upcoming forward Ray Omondi who crushed the hopes of the travelling AFC fans scoring a beautiful goal in the 39th minute.

Omondi, drove forward with the ball before looping the ball past Leopards’s newly signed goalkeeper Lucas Indeche to score into the empty net. It was one of those goals that are hard to come by in the KPL.
