Ushuru took a giant step towards promotion to top flight football when they beat KCB 4-1 in a key Super League match at Camp Toyoyo, Nairobi over the weekend.

Benson Amianda scored a brace as Nelson Marosowe and Bill Oporia accounted for a goal each for the taxmen, who got relegated from the SportPesa Premier League last year after finishing second last on the table.

Kevin Migele managed the consolation goal for promotion chasing KCB who remain in second place on the table with 62 points, two less than new leaders Ushuru.

The match had been viewed as a crucial tie in the title race and both sides, understandably, started out rather cautiously.

Former Talanta forward Ben Amianda opened the scoring in the fifth minute before completing his brace in the 60th minute.

Marosowe, a former Nairobi City Stars midfielder made his contribution shortly afterwards before second half replacement Bill Oporia completed the onslaught five minutes before time.

The result saw the taxmen leapfrog KCB and assume league leadership in the NSL table with 64 points.

Vihiga United are in third followed by Nairobi Stima, who are all eyeing promotion to the Kenyan Premier League.

Coach Ken Kenyatta, who succeeded in guiding the taxmen to promotion in 2014, had nothing but praise for his charges.

“The boys are displaying positive attitude and are hungry to win games. This is very important for any team,” he said.
