Ushuru tackle City Stars as promotion race hots up

Former top flight sides Ushuru and Nairobi City Stars face-off Saturday afternoon at Camp Toyoyo as the race for promotion to the SportPesa Premier League enters homestretch.

With four matches left, league leaders Ushuru will be seeking to remain on top with a win over City Stars in the National Super League match expected to be closely contested.

The tax-men, coached by former Kenyan international goalkeeper Ken Kenyatta, have been on song in recent matches as they bid to make an immediate return to the top flight after they were relegated at the end of the 2016 season.

Administration Police (AP) take on lowly FC Talanta at the same venue in another duel starting from 2pm.

Second-placed Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) will be away to Isibania in Awendo looking for a win to keep the pressure on Ushuru.

Ushuru’s 2-0 over FC Talanta in their midweek clash at home saw them leapfrog KCB – who had moved to summit earlier in the day following their 3-1 win over AP.

KCB’s win over AP left the law enforcers on the brink of relegation at position 18 with 27 points.

City Stars hopes of climbing further on the standings were dashed after their 2-0 loss to visiting Bidco United in another midweek encounter at Hope Centre.
Wazito edged GFE 1-0 away in Eldoret, but remained 3rd with 68 points.

Wazito coach Frank Ouna believes all is not lost with regards to his push for this year’s title despite sitting four points behind Ushuru.

“We are still in the league title contention despite the gap,” said the former Gor Mahia assistant coach.

Kibera Black Stars drew 0-0 all with Nairobi Stima, while Nakuru All Stars edged neighbouring St Joseph’s 1-0.

In another development, Vihiga United players have reportedly not been paid for two months.
