Gor Mahia lost ground in the title race after settling for a barren draw with Sofapaka at Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.

With the draw, Gor took their points tally to 44, four shy of leaders Tusker who beat Muhoroni Youth 2-1 on Friday to move to 48 points.

In a game that presented many scoring opportunities but which went begging, K’Ogalo were left to rue their lack of ruthlessness in front of goal while Sofapaka will have custodian Mathias Kigonya to thank for keeping them in the game with outstanding saves in either side of the half.

Francis Kahata, deployed deep in playmaking role, made Gor tick in the early instances, releasing Eric ‘Marcelo’ Ouma on the left and, with acres of space to exploit, Ouma dashed forward to release a pin-point cross which Sofapaka goalie Kigonya collected with relative ease.

THUNDEROUS DRIVE

Gor continued with their charge and three minutes later, Ouma was involved again, unleashing a shot from the left but Jacques Tuyisenge failed to make connection and instead collided with Kigonya and required medical attention to resume play.

Chances continued to come thick and fast for Gor, Tuyisenge’s neat diving header bouncing off the right far post three minutes to the break.

Though second best, Sofapaka nearly caught Gor flat-footed in the run of play after Wycliffe Opondo broke away unmarked to release a thunderous drive which sailed off target.

Earlier on at the same venue, Posta Rangers held Mathare United to a barren draw while at the Thika Municipal Stadium, Thika drew 1-1 with Sony Sugar.

Victor Adema fired Sony to a 26th minute lead but Musa Saad spared Thika`s blushes with a 77th equaliser.
