University of Nairobi’s Wazito FC have vowed to upset the big boys and claim the GOtv Shield Cup this season.

Coached by veteran Frankline Obare, they open their Domestic Cup campaign at the Thika Municipal Stadium against Kiambu All Stars on Sunday. Speaking to Nation Sport on Tuesday, club chairman Luthers Mokua said his charges are adequately prepared for the challenge ahead.

“We are going to Thika ready for a win. We are not intimidated by any team. We know the task ahead and that’s why we have been training hard,” Mokua said.

Wazito FC captain Sekou Dore launched a passionate appeal for sponsorship as the team seeks to claim this season’s National Super League title.

Dore said the team faces numerous challenges due to lack of a sponsor and appealed to corporate organisations and well-wishers to help them realise their dream.

Wazito, who won last year’s Nairobi Provincial League title, will face Kenya Police in their next National Super League assignment.

In other GOtv Shield round one matches, holders Sofapaka will kick-start their title defence on Saturday against Nakuru AllStars at the Nyayo National Stadium while Tusker FC will be away to minnows Nyakach United at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Ten-time champions Gor Mahia have a date with Nairobi County League side Lang’ata Gremio in one of the Tuesday’s triple-header set for Nyayo Stadium. Football Kenya Federation outfit Shabana FC will face the Robert Matano-coached Ulinzi Stars while 2013 champions AFC Leopards tackle Ligi Ndogo.
