West Kenya Sugar and Agrochemicals won their respective matches in the GOtv Shield on Sunday to stay in contention in the knock-out tournament.

West Kenya edged out University of Nairobi’s Wazito FC 6-5 on post-match penalties at the Ruaraka Stadium, while National Super League Agrochemicals hit Shabana FC 3-1 at Kakamega’s Bukhungu Stadium.

Wazito’s Dennis Onyango levelled the scores after Allan Onyango had put West Kenya ahead in the first half, taking the match into penalty shoot-out.

“I am very happy that we won because we were the better team. We however conceded an easy goal and that was partly due to our goalkeeper was playing with an injury he sustained in the second-half,” West Kenya coach Ezekiel Akwana said.

The sugar millers enjoyed early possession and were duly rewarded when Onyango struck with a fine volley in the 40th minute.

After the break, Wazito’s Onyango capitalised West Kenya’s injured goalkeeper Eliud Emase’s mistake to score into an empty net with just 15 minutes remaining. West Kenya converted all their spot kicks while Solomon Alubala missed his penalty for the varsity side.
