AFC Leopards rejuvenation in the Kenyan Premier League was halted by host Western Stima who beat them 2-0 at Moi Stadium, Kisumu on Saturday.

Substitute Victor Ochieng scored two goals in a spell of two minutes to hand Western Stima a deserved victory as the visitors missed a number of chances in the first half on the Moi Stadium artificial Moi turf.

After a goalless first half the Zdravko Logarusic-coached Leopards returned energized with the introduction of Lamin Diallo in place of Noah Wafula. The changes almost paid of as Austine Ikenna’s shot inside the box went wide in the 47 minute.

Stima also had a chance four minutes later when Ronald Okoth, who was impressive during the second half, missed to convert Estone Esiye pass in the danger area.
Ikenna came close again in the 59th minute with a loop but missed as his shot went wide.

Henry Omino then introduced Victor Ochieng for Esiye in the 66 minute to add vitality to their attack. Ochieng netted the first goal in the 68 minutes to send the crowd into a frenzy.

He then added the second two minutes later shooting outside the box past Wycliffe Kasaya to complete his brace.

“Winning against AFC is a formality. It comes from way back in 1983 when I was still at Kisumu Posta,” said a delighted Stima coach Henry Omino.

“We did not make use of our chances and the team was punished for small individual mistakes in the back line.

“Congratulations to them (Stima). They deserved to win,” said Ingwe coach Logarusic.

At Afraha Stadium, Nakuru, struggling Nairobi City Stars denied Ulinzi Stars two vital points when they came from behind to hold the soldiers 1-1 in balanced affair.

The soldiers mastered the muddy conditions following a heavy downpour in the first half to fire home the match opener in the 34th minute through Oscar Wamalwa following a goal-mouth melee.

After resumption the City lads found the back of the net when danger man Joseph Sakwa caught the Ulinzi defence napping in the 61st minute with a fierce shot on top of the box that goalkeeper James Saruni did very little to stop it.

Sony Sugar will rue the numerous chances they created during the match in which both Andrew Sekayombya and Vincent Ogutu were unable to score.
