SportPesa Kenyan Premier League Clubs have until Sunday midnight to complete the signing of new players before the December-January transfer window closes.

The transfer window gives clubs a chance to strengthen their squads and to get rid of surplus players ahead of the new season.

Most clubs have already completed their pre-season recruitments, but few are still looking to complete some last-minute deals.

Thirteen-time Kenya champions AFC Leopards have been the most affected in the current transfer window, losing eight of their first team players.

REPLACE PLAYERS

Noah Wafula, Bernard Mang’oli, Michael Khamati, Timonah Wanyonyi, Jackson Saleh and Martin Kiiza have left the financially-troubled club.

The club has identified talented youngsters to replace the players, and is also holding talks with some of its senior players in light of an improved sponsorship for the league from sports betting company SportPesa.

Leopards are also chasing the signatures of midfielders Clifton Miheso and Kevin Omondi, as well as former Thika United striker Kepha Aswani.

“We are not known to make last-minute buys but this time we will have to work round the clock to tie down a few players,” Ingwe’s Interim Management Committee chairman Mathews Opwora said on Friday.

Former league champions Sofapaka have also lost captain Felly Mulumba and John Baraza (retired), goalkeeper David Okello and defender Collins Shivachi. The club has however been relatively quiet in transfer season.

Champions Gor Mahia have also lost dependable strikers in Meddie Kagere and Michael Olunga as the club prepares to compete in African Champions League.
Gor Mahia have signed up Rwandan Jacques Tuyisenge, Francis Kahata and Jacob Keli. KPL management has announced that the transfer deadline will not be extended.
