South Africa based Stefan Andersen was laying in 57th place going into Sunday’s final round of the 2016 Zambia Sugar Open golf championship at the par 73 Lusaka Golf Club course.

During Saturday’s third round, Andersen, the only Kenyan to have made the round cut on Friday, fired his second one over par 74 for a three rounds total of two over par 221.

He took off well firing two back to back birdies in the first two holes, but made two successive bogeys, then parred the remaining five holes to cross the back nine on level par.

At the back nine, Andersen, a member of Muthaiga Golf Club, birdied the 12th, 13th and 14th only to drop a shot at the 17th for the day’s one over par. During the second round, Andersen had also posted one over par to make the cut with one over 147.

“It was frustrating, I got off to a good start. I wanted to be two under after going into the tough stretch from the third to the seventh holes, and for some reasons, the wind blows strongly, very unusually,” said Andersen.

The golfer said he was content with par after the nine, missed three feet putt for birdie at the 10th, which he thinks was going to be the turning point if he made it.

“I doubled at the 12th from the middle of the fairways. I felt like I was in for a low round today, but when I got going, I had a bad break but still a lot of positives to take out from today, everything is good, I am just waiting for it to come together," added Andersen.

The other Kenyans, David Wakhu, missed the cut by a shot, while Eric Ooko went out of the tournament after a poor 79 in the second round, for a total of 10 over par 156.

Only three Kenyans had been listed to play out of the earlier entry list of six. The Zambia Sugar Open follows last weekend’s Zimbabwe Open at Royal Harare where Andersen was the only Kenyan player and where he missed the cut.

Elsewhere in Suez, Egypt, Barclays Kenya Open champion Sweden’s Sebastian Soderberg missed the cut by seven shots in the second leg of the 2016 European Challenge Tour series, the Red Sea Egyptian Challenge at the Sokhna Country Club
