It is the turn of amateurs at the par-72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club course Friday morning where club chairman, Odongo Mark Okeyo, hosts the first round of the three-day Chairman’s Prize.

Friday’s round has attracted a field of 138 players, who include some of the club’s caddies, and guests of the chairman are drawn from as far away as Mombasa and Machakos.

A total of 24 prizes, including three for the caddies, three for players from Mombasa and three others for guests from elsewhere, will be up for grabs.

But the overall winner of the 2014 Chairman’s Prize will be decided by the results of two rounds. Today’s round comes two days after the conclusion of the pro event sponsored by club member Maurice Njue and won by Mumias golfer Dismas Indiza.

Those in Friday’s line-up include all the leading players at Royal, who include Bo Ciera, Mugambi Murwithania, Josiah Kogo, Silyvester Odunga, Zubin Parikh, Jack Okuku and Victor Kidiwa.

Saturday’s second round, which will involve members and guests, has also attracted a big field, although some post entries are still available.

Besides the prizes, outgoing chairman Okeyo has lined up a number of entertainment and other activities for the next three days. The tournament is sponsored by, among others, Toyota Kenya.

Besides the Royal event, other Chairman’s Prize events will take place at Kiambu Club. Karen, Vet Lab, Thika and Limuru will stage the ladies' and men’s competitions for the Captain's Prize.

Muthaiga’s par-71 course will today host the Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) tournament supported by a number of corporate organizations, including Nation Media Group.
