Barorot wins Tembea Kenya series in Eldoret

  • Jane Koech was the lady winner on 36 points. She won by five points Gracemary Karira  as Allan Njoroge  on 26 took the staff title. The nines went to Natu Lakhani (19) and Simiyu Sitati (20). The inaugural series visited Limuru, Nyali, Nakuru, Nyanza, Sigona and Vet Lab.
  • At Thika Sports Club, Handicap 17 Wilhem Mugho beat a field of 278, collecting 44 points to claim the eighth leg in  the 2014/2015 Kenya Airways Golf Safari series at the weekend.
  • Solomon Kihanya took the men’s first prize with 40 points, winning by one point from Rod Barton who won the 2011/2012 edition at the same venue.

Former Eldoret Golf Club captain John Barorot won the overall title in the final leg of Kenya Tourism Board golf tournament at the nine-hole Eldoret Golf Club course.

Playing off handicap seven, Barorot carded an impressive 40 points that included 24 points at the back nine to win the “Tembea Kenya’’ Golf Series by two points from men winner and former Boston Marathon champion Moses Tanui.

Junior golfer Ravi Shah, playing off handicap 14, was second on 36 points (16,20) after beating Nduini Gikonyo (20, 16)  on count back.

Mugho not only won two return tickets to any African destination of his choice but also booked a place in the grand finale of the series at Windsor Club set for March 27.

MEN'S PRIZE

Solomon Kihanya took the men’s first prize with 40 points, winning by one point from Rod Barton who won the 2011/2012 edition at the same venue. He however came second after beating Mugo Kirika on countback as Brian Omondi, also on 39, took the junior title. Leading the ladies was Winfred, Mugo playing off handicap 35, with 43 points.

In the ladies section, Mugo was followed in second place by Rose Kigwe (38). Men’s longest drive title went to Anthony Mwaura while Betty Ndenderu took the ladies title. 

“I’m overwhelmed after winning this event with a career-best score. I had prepared well for this event and I’m glad the conditions favoured me,” said Wilhem. The KQ Safari resumes at Vet Lab Sports Club on January 3. Before the grand finale, it will visit Kiambu on January 10 before going to Nakuru, Muthaiga, Sigona, Karen and Royal. The Nakuru, Muthaiga, Sigona, Royal and Karen events will also feature local pros.

At Nyanza Club, Maurice Oduor beat over 100 players to win the grand finale of the 2014 Sunset Golfing Society. Oduor, playing off 18, posted 19 and 20 points to win by two points from Prashant Thakrar 37.

Fred Koech (36) was third. The ladies title went to Dorcas Bett (32). Sunset members were led by Paul Otieno (37), followed by Peter Owino (36). Rose Obara took the ladies prize on 29 points.
