A field of 119 players will battle it out for the Chairman’s Prize at Machakos Golf Club this weekend.

A field of 119 players was drawn to play from 7am. According to club captain Musembi Katuku, organisers are still accepting more entries through post-entries before 1pm. This weekend’s event is sponsored by MassMart Supermarket courtesy of former club chairman Swarn Singh.

At the moment, Machakos Club course is in excellent condition following recent rains and high scores are anticipated this weekend.

“The green keeper and his team have worked hard to return the course to the condition it was in early this year. The greens are smooth and holding and players are guaranteed to have a superb day on Saturday," said captain Katuku.

During the Captain’s Prize, the last major event hosted at Machakos Club on October 26, David Alelu Muasya carded 40 points to win by a point from current chairman Collins Kaloki while handicap five Jackson Nzioki was third on 38 points. Muasya is son of former chairman of Machakos Club Peter Kamba.

Nzioki and other players like Ben Mumo, Cleo Makau, Willy Muvea, and Dee Kivuva are in top form at the moment and are likely to feature in the prize list.

Swarn has teamed up with Pounds Venture Safaris and other friends of club chairman Collins Kaloki to offer some exciting prizes in addition to “nyama choma’’ on the course and at the “19th hole.’’

Elsewhere, Leisure Lodge will host the Dr Meister Memorial tournament in memory of the founder of Leisure Lodge Beach and Golf Resort, while a big field was drawn for the Total golf tournament at Muthaiga Golf Club.

Royal Nairobi Golf Club will be the home of the Red Cross Parklands Charity event this afternoon.
