The century old Royal Nairobi Golf Club, one of the leading 18-hole golf courses within the Nairobi City County and the country as a whole, will be the venue of the third edition of the Lenana School charity golf tournament on Friday.

Organised by the school’s old boys association, the Laibon Society, the event, which aims at raising funds to support the school, has attracted a big field of 152 players and hopefully more may compete as post entries.

Paul Ichangi, who started his golfing career while a student at Lenana, said entry fee will be Sh2,500 per player which can be paid tomorrow at the reporting desk. The first such event was organised by the Laibon Society in 2011, followed by another one in 2012 which was however a joint venture between old Lenana and Nairobi School students.

The Laibon Society, formerly the Old Yorkist Society, was registered in 1966. It later became Laibon when the formerly Duke of York School changed its name to Lenana School.

Ichangi said the event also offers an opportunity for Lenana and Nairobi School to renew their rivalry in the revolving shield currently held by Nairobi School.

A few teams have been slated for an 8am tee off though majority of the players will be teeing off from 11.30am. Among those drawn to battle it out include former Kenya’s number one amateur Wachira Mahihu, national team player Tony Omuli, Evans Vitisia, and Limuru Country Club’s Yasin Awale.

Other big names at the event include Joe Kihanya, Mumias Sugar Company boss Peter Kebati, former Royal Nairobi captain Jack Okuku, Jeremy Ngunze, and former Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi who will be in the team of Toyota East Africa Chairman Dennis Awori, Ronnie Andrews and Jimmy Gachoka.
