On-form Kenneth Bollo of Royal Nairobi Golf Club posted a final round two over par 73 for a total of 223 to claim the Muthaiga Open title on Sunday, his third back-to-back victory in the Golfer of The Year (Goty) series this season.

This was Bollo’s fifth victory in the series since claiming his home title (the Uhuru Shield) in December, which he followed up with the Nyali Open in Mombasa.

Before Sunday’s round at Muthaiga Golf Club, Bollo had posted four over par 75 in the first and second rounds.

“The course was tough, particularly the greens on the first day. They were very fast and difficult to read but I am happy to have managed to sink in a number of putts,’’ said Bollo.

The golfer said he has been putting for many hours on the driving range and practising green.

“I would like to win the Goty title this year. I hope to win at least four other events,’’ said Bollo, whose next target is the Windsor Classic before the Kenya Open.

He won by seven strokes against Nyali’s Daniel Nduva who came onto the leader board following his one under par 70 during the second round. He, however, shot 82 in the closing round for 230 to settle for second place with a shot better than Limuru’s Paul Muchangi.

FIRST ROUND GROSS

Day one leader Jeff Kubwa could only settle for the first round gross after a total collapse in the second and third round. John Karichu, also on 72, took home the second round gross, while the third round gross went to Bo Ciera who fired level par 71, and the 54-hole net champion is S.N. Kiaro who posted a total of 215 to win well ahead of Simon Karari on 220.

Emmanuel Wekesa on 70 nett took the first round and Ezekiel Kemboi on 72 was the second round nett winner while Avnish Bhandari clinched the third round net on 70.

This year, the course at Muthaiga was tough hence only a couple of under par scores were posted.
