Calm weekend as action swings to club scene

What you need to know:

It is back to the club scene this weekend in the absence of Golfer of The Year and professional events.

In all, 13 events are scheduled for today and tomorrow at various clubs in the country. Vet Lab Sports Club and Royal Nairobi Golf Club will host the Canada Cup and Sunset golf events Friday afternoon. Both events have attracted huge fields of over 200 players.

Events scheduled for tomorrow include the Family Bank tournament at the nine-hole Nanyuki Sports Club in the Mount Kenya region.

A field of 83 players was drawn for the event, the second one by Family Bank at the club. Family Bank’s senior manager, Corporate Communications, Norman Mudibo said the event was being used to bring the bank’s customers together and appreciate their support.

Family Bank has also sponsored other events in Kiambu and Eldoret usual held on the eve of the bank’s half marathon in October.

Besides golfers, the bank has also invited among other guests, Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu, County Commissioner – Wilson Wanyanga and Laikipia East MP – Anthony Mutahi.

Also drawn are players from Nyeri Golf Club led by their chairman Eddie Karumwa. Among the locals will include veteran Peter Waweru.

Back in Nairobi, Muthaiga will be the venue of the on going Johnnie Walker Reserve Party events.

This particular event has attracted a huge field of over 250 players. Sigona will stage its club championship.

Action also resumes at the nine-hole Machakos Golf Club, the only golf venue in the whole of Eastern region where Easy Reach Automobiles have lined up an array of prizes.

All the club’s leading golfers led by their captain Dee Kivuva, and single figure handicap golfers Annest Mwanza, James Ndunda, Larry Wambua, Jackson Nzioki, and Fred Kilonzi are among other leading golfers.
