Mumias-based Dismas Indiza produced his usual magic power, firing a course equalling record of eight under par to open a five-shot lead in the 2014 Chairman’s (Odongo Mark Okeyo) prize at the par 72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club course Tuesday.

The long-hitting Indiza, who attributed his excellent score on putting, started by dropping his only shot of the day at the par four-first hole.

But he recovered quickly with an eagle three at the par five-second hole where he hit a massive driver that was followed by an easy nine iron shot.

Thereafter, Indiza birdied the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth for a low 31.

He added more birdies at the back nine’s 10th, 14th, and 15th, parred the remaining three holes for a 33 to equal the eight under 64 record he set a few years ago during a KCB tour event.

“I was putting well today save for the footer I missed at the first hole. I pray that my putting stays like that for the remaining part of this season,” said Indiza. Finishing the opening round in second place in this pro event was Railway’s Njuguna Ngugi, who shot three under par 69.

Ngugi hit a total of five birdies, two at the front nine and three at the back nine, but bogeyed the 16th where he missed the greens, and the tough 18th.
