Action in the 2012 Dasani Golf Gala series, dubbed “Race to Dubai”, remains with the Nairobi County with the third leg set for the Vet Lab Sports Club course.
This weekend’s round, which is the last nine-hole contest Vet Lab will be hosting, has attracted a field of 162, or 40 four ball teams, vying for the two slots available for the grand finale.
Next weekend, Vet Lab’s second nine will be officially launching, giving Nairobi its fourth 18-hole course.
The two teams will join four others who qualified at Kiambu and Thika.
The grand finale of the countrywide series will take place on September 29 at Karen Country Club where the winning team will earn a VIP trip to Dubai to watch the 2013 European Tour grand finale at the world famous Jumierah Golf Estates.
Vet Lab resident professional Ali Kimani said the club’s members were all set for this weekend’s even.
He said: “The course is in an excellent condition save for the quick greens, which may however be a bit slow after today’s heavy rains.”
Among those expected to vie for the two slots include the on-form team of national team players Robinson Owiti and Mathew Omondi, both scratch players, who are partnering with Peter Nyabuto (5) and David Ongeri (4).
Another team to watch will be that of veterans George Karugu, Wanjohi Kangangi, Abdallah “Baba’’ Bekah and Kenya Golf Union (KGU) executive Muchau Githiaka.
There is also that of former captain Njani Nderitu, Francis Mwangi, Joe Kisolo and Simon Mbugua.
Kimani says 37 points has been the best at Vet Lab lately, meaning an average of 34 for the four balls could easily land them at Karen.
