Dismas Indiza, Ganeev Giddie set early KQ Safari Series pace at Vet Lab

What you need to know:

  • Indiza dropped two shots at the second and ninth holes, and picked up birdies at the fifth and seventh to level the front nine.
  • Giddie started the back nine well picking up two back to back birdies at the 15th and 16th but two bogeys at the last two holes of the nine spoiled what would have been an excellent card.

Mumias Golf Club’s Dismas Indiza and Sigona’s Ganeev Giddie shot one under par each, to share round one lead in the Kenya Airways Golf Safari series at the par 72 Vet Lab Sports Club course on Wednesday.

Indiza dropped two shots at the second and ninth holes, and picked up birdies at the fifth and seventh to level the front nine.

He managed to birdie the 10th, 12th and 18th against bogeys at the 13th and 17th for his one under par 71 to share the day with Giddie whose card included a birdie at the first hole, and an eagle at the par five-seventh, having dropped shots at the second, sixth and eighth.

Giddie started the back nine well picking up two back to back birdies at the 15th and 16th but two bogeys at the last two holes of the nine spoiled what would have been an excellent card.

Finishing a shot behind the leaders was Mathew Omondi, who played a bogey-free front nine that included birdies at the fourth and ninth, though things were not as bright at the back nine where he only made one birdie at the 13th against three bogeys at the 11th, 15th and 16th.

On his own with one over par 73 was Nakuru’s Richard Ainley while Royal Nairobi’s Eric Ooko also ended up at the leaderboard on two over par 74 and a shot better than Muthaiga’s Anil Shah.

Another Royal player Ken Abuto fired four over par 76 to lead a group of four that included Thika’s Simon Ngige.
