What you need to know:
- Mumias-based golfer starts Friday’s final round with a six shot lead from Royal Nairobi’s Greg Snow.
- A total of Sh240,000 is at stake for the top eight finishers in Friday’s round.
Long-hitting Dismas Indiza jumped to the lead on his own after firing one under par 71 again at the par-72 Vet Lab Sports Club course where the Kenya Airways Golf Safari Series entered its second day.
However, birdies became elusive for the Mumias-based Indiza who sunk only two at the fourth and eighth after dropping a shot at the first hole.
"The course is very good, but the greens are very hard and difficult to read, especially at the back nine where it is easy for one to pick up bogeys," said Indiza, who goes into Friday’s final round with a total of two under par 142.
He starts Friday’s final round with a six shot lead from Royal Nairobi’s Greg Snow who shot one under par 71 for 148 and a shot better than Nakuru’s Richard Ainley who posted 76 for 149.
Finishing a shot behind Ainley was Kenya’s top ranked amateur, Nelson Simwa, who carded 74 for 150.
A total of Sh240,000 is at stake for the top eight finishers in Friday’s round.
On the other hand, a large field of over 200 was drawn for the six return tickets in the amateur section. Besides Vet Lab members, over 40 guests of Kenya Airways will also battle it out for the guest prize.
CAPTAIN'S PRIZE
Meanwhile, Ruiru Sports Club captain John Wanyoike winds up a successful team of office with the Captain’s Prize tournament at the club sponsored by Vivo Energy.
A big field of 150 players was drawn for the Stableford off full handicap event where captain Wanyoike has lined up goodies for those who will conquer the tough par-72 course.
The course is currently playing short due to the prevailing dry spell, although green keeper Samuel Githanga Njuguna says a lot has been done to ensure the course is playing well this weekend.
Njuguna said the greens were holding well and that despite the dry fairways, some interesting scores are likely to be posted.
Some of the players drawn and who have been enjoying good runs lately include Marceru De Jesus, playing off 13, single-figure handicap golfer Chris Andrea and Frank Munyua and former captain Maina Ruo.
Leading the ladies’ challenge will be lady captain Susan Kanyora, playing off handicap 12, and handicap nine Lucy Njuguna.
At Muthaiga, a huge field was drawn for the annual Kingsway Tyres.
During last weekend’s Barclays Bank Golf Circuit, Victor Laibuni who has been enjoying a good run, lost the overall title by two points from Gailey Singh after posting 38 points.
He will be one of those to watch again this weekend and so are the single-figure handicappers Kumar Dhall, Tanvir Sodi, Evans Vitisia, Selest Kilinda, Kamau Thugge, Mwai Mbuthia and Wanjohi Kangangi.
