Gachara wins Rapid Challenge golf event at Muthaiga

What you need to know:

  • Posting a narrow one point victory in the ladies section was Margo Radnell on 35 ahead of Florence Maina on 34. Watson Njenga took the guests top prize on 36 points, three better than Benjamin Koyier.
  • There was a shoot-out contest between the professionals and amateurs where Railway’s Njuguna Ngugi who is 6.1 feet from the target took top prize. Muthaiga’s John Gitonga was the amateur winner on 8.2 feet.

Gachara Ng’ang’a beat a field of 200 golfers at the weekend to take the overall title during the Rapid Challenge golf tournament at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club course.

The handicap 28 posted 23 points in the first nine and 21 from the back nine for a total of 44 to win by five points from men’s winner David Ombasi who had to beat Ashwin Gidoomal on countback with 39 points.

Kenya Golf Union treasurer Richard Wanjalla finished third with 38 points.

The junior title went to John Munge on 36. Winning the two nines were Allan Wairi and Alphonse Gitonga on 22 and 21 points. The longest drive contest was won by A.N. Wachira for the men and Grace Kimeria for the ladies as Chege Gitura claimed the nearest to pin prize.

At Vet Lab, handicap 22, Paras Shah, carded 21 points in each nine for 42 to beat a field of 222 players in the Sweet Banana Golf Day. Sahil Shah topped the men’s category with 40 ahead of Musikari Kombo on 39 points after edging out vice-captain Elisha Ogonji on countback (19, 20). Rahab Waitete was the lady winner with 37 points.
