Greg Snow was the only Kenyan who reached the second round of the Royal Dar es Salaam Golf Open at the tough-playing par-73 Royal Dar es Salaam course in Rabat, Morocco.

Just like in the opening round on Tuesday, Snow made only two birdies in Wednesday’s second round one over par 74 which saw him make the cut with a total of three over par 149 to lie 14th.

He made a birdie at the 10th par five and had to wait up to the 18th to make his second birdie for the day, having earlier bogeyed the first and the par three-ninth in the front ninth and at the 14th over the back nine.

FINISHED 5TH LAST YEAR

He was still fighting it out in the third and final round of the 50,000-dollar event where he finished fifth during the 2013 series. England’s Ross McGowan led the field of 56 players after posting his second two under par 71 for a total of 142.

Of the four remaining Kenyan players, Stefan Andersen shot 80 and 79 to miss the cut while Brian Njoroge missed the cut with a score of 84 and 78, his worst score in any event this year. Also missing the cut were Hardeep Thethy (80, 82) and Ganeev Giddie who carded 86 and 83.

The Kenyans will have to wait till September to see how they perform in the remaining part of the tour whose events will be played in Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Back home, Muthaiga will this afternoon host a large field of over 200 players in the second of a five-leg fund-raising tournament in aid of the All Africa Challenge Trophy ladies’ tournament.

Although the Royal and Ancient Golf Club is supporting the event which is Africa’s top ladies amateur event, the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) needs over Sh14m host more than 15 African countries expected for the championship.

The first fund-raising event was held at Vet Lab Sports Club.

Elsewhere, Eldoret Golf Club will host the 2013 Captain’s (John Barorot) Prize which has attracted players from Eldoret, Nandi Bears, Kitale and Kakamega.
