Two months after clinching the KCB Golf Tour grand finale title at Nyali Golf and Country Club, Mombasa, Muthaiga’s Greg Snow returns to the venue this weekend in search of another title.

One of the most successful Kenyan professional players, Snow is among the 30 pro in the line-up for the 36-hole Mayfair Insurance Golf Tournament.

The star-studded list includes Mumias Golf Club’s Dismas Indiza, Nakuru’s Richard Ainley and David Odhiambo from Nyanza Golf Club. Others are Muthaiga’s Anil Shah, Nicholas Rokoine and Nelson Mudanyi, Royal Nairobi’s David Wakhu, Thika Sports Club’s Simon Ngige and local pro Kopan Timbe.

10TH ANNIVERSARY

Mayfair Insurance, who are staging the event as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations, have set aside Sh500,000 courtesy of former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, a keen golfer and member of Thika Sports Club.

The pros will play their first round on Friday before joining a field of 200 amateurs drawn from all the Coast-based clubs in Saturday’s Pro-Am.

All the up-country pros were expected at Nyali Wednesday evening ready for a practice round today before embarking on the first round on Friday.

Currently, the Nyali course is playing long due to the ongoing rains, a condition which may favour the long hitters.

Meanwhile, another Sh500,000 will be at stake for the pros at this year’s Simon and Agnes Mbugua Foundation tournament at the nine-hole Nanyuki Sports Club next weekend.

The tournament is being held in memory of the late engineer Simon Mbugua, who was a member of Thika Sports Club and Karen Country Club, among other clubs.

By yesterday, it had attracted more than 30 pros, who will be battling it out in a two-round (36-hole) duel. The event, which is sponsored by the children of the late Mbugua, was initially scheduled for August but was postponed.

The pros will play their first round on Friday, November 20, and will be joined by the amateurs the following day.

The long-hitting Indiza is the defending champion.

One of the event organisers, Kimani Gitau, said a number of amateurs have been invited from different clubs in the country besides those in the Mount Kenya region.
