Kenyan professional golfer Greg Snow has lined up a number of events prior to and after this year’s Barclays Kenya Open, as he prepares to launch his bid for the European Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Tour School.

Snow, now based at Royal Nairobi Golf Club and the most successful player during last year’s Kenya Open, will feature in five events in the newly launched Mediterranean PGA Tour in Egypt. This will be in addition to the Middle East-based Mena Tour, where he has been very successful over the past two years.

Speaking to Nation Sport over the weekend at Royal Nairobi during the Barclays Bank Golf Circuit, Snow said he needs to play as many events as possible if he wants to qualify for the touch Qualifying School to be held in September.

“The Q-School is a very tough venture which one must be prepared well. This is because of the high demand and the number of players falling from the European Tour series,’’ said Snow.

The five-event series in Egypt will take place between February and March and each event will offer a prize fund of 40,000 euros (Sh4.3 million).

FEATURE LOCALLY

At the same time, Snow said he will try to play in as many local events as possible to get a local ranking.

“There are a number of big local events set for February and March just before the Kenya Open and I would like to play in most of them as they will help me generate funds for the international circuits," added Snow, who is still searching for an organised sponsorship to enable him to participate in the Tour School, whose venues are spread in various European cities in Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, and England.

Qualifiers in the Tour School earn a European International Tour card, which allows them to play in most of the open events that offer a minimum of 500,000 euros (Sh53.8 million).

South Africa currently hosts five European Tour events and it will be fairly cheap for a Kenyan European Tour card holder to play.

Snow, who finished in 10th place in the 2014 Kenya Open at Karen, will also feature in the Euro Tour, a domestic pro series in England for those preparing to launch their bid for the big tours.
