Handicap one Kisia wins Mt Kenya championship

  • Vet Lab Sports Club’s Mike Kisia over the weekend beat Railway’s Samuel Njoroge by one shot to clinch the Mount Kenya Championship golf title at Nyeri Golf Club course.

  • The plus one handicap Kisia carded one over par 73 in the first round and one under par 71 for a total of level par 144.

  • Njoroge fired 76 and 69 for 145 to finish in second place and a shot better than Robinson Owiti on 146.

Vet Lab Sports Club’s Mike Kisia over the weekend beat Railway’s Samuel Njoroge by one shot to clinch the Mount Kenya Championship golf title at Nyeri Golf Club course.

The plus one handicap Kisia carded one over par 73 in the first round and one under par 71 for a total of level par 144.

Njoroge fired 76 and 69 for 145 to finish in second place and a shot better than Robinson Owiti on 146. The overall nett title went to Simon Kiaro on 143, beating Peter Rimui by a shot while Reuben Langat was third on 146 nett.

At Sigona, Jayesh Nagrecha, managed to overcome a strong field of seasoned golfers by posting a commanding 41 points to grab the overall title during the KCB golf tournament.

This was despite his three bogeys in the front nine where he however signed off with an impressive 20 points.

The going was neither smooth at the back nine where Nagrecha dropped six shots for 21 points. “ I have been coming so close to winning so many times and fallen short, winning today’s KCB Golf day means a lot to me, consistency on the greens as well as the well maintained course helped me to wind up the day well”, said Nagrecha.

Bharat Amus Shah took the men’s title with a score of 41 points, one better than second placed Ravi Patel who beat Sawan Shah and Vicky Chawla on count back with 40 points. Isabella Desouza emerged the lady winner with 39 points, followed in second place by Liz Mbuthia on 34.

In the guest category, A. Gatimu beat L. Gibson on countback with 35 points. “It’s been a great day for me at the KCB golf day, consistency was key in the front nine and with the three pars I knew I was headed to some major breakthrough”, said Dsouza.

Timothy Kuria who finished the front nine with a birdie, went on to claim the staff prize with 42 points as Amit Raikundalia and Robert Kimani clinched the nines with 22 and 21 points.
