Hemmingways doles out Sh2.3m for Barclays Open golf tourney

This year’s Barclays Kenya Open received another major boost when Hemingways Collection pumped in Sh2.3m in sponsorship Tuesday.

Last week, Coca Cola company gave the event another Sh8.6million while Braclays Bank are title sponsors.

The European Challenge Tour-sanctioned event which marks its 46th year is scheduled for Karen Country Club on Thursday next week and will bring together 156 players with the European Challenge Tour sending 100 players.

The winner of this year’s tournament will pocket 200,000 (Sh23.6m) euros up from Sh190,000 euros received over the past two year.

“We are proud to be associated with the Kenya Open Golf Championship and our support is intended to assist organisers to continue developing this outstanding tournament so it can become the best in the European Challenge Tour circuit,” Hemingways Collection chief executive officer Alastair Addison said while handing the donation to Kenya Open Golf Limited boss Peter Kanyago.

The sponsorship will cater for the accommodation of all officials including two referees, tournament administrator, Director of the Challenge Tour, an agronomist and two press officers among others.

“This tournament is one of the greatest we have in African and we recognise the role officials play in making it a success,” said Addison.

Kanyago said they were ready for the event noting that the course was in good shape. “We are grateful for this great boost from Hemingways and other companies who have so far supported us,” Kanyago said.
