Home player Njoroge wins Kiambu Ladies Open

Home player and member of the Kenya ladies national golf team Jane Njoroge beat a field of 60 golfers at the par 72 Kiambu Golf Club course to claim the 77 year old Craig Bowl in last weekend’s Kiambu Ladies Open.

The long hitter Njoroge, currently playing off handicap five, carded an impressive one over par 73 gross to win the event sponsored by Abercrombie and Kent Global Health Kenya by five shots from Muthaiga’s Florence Maina.

Tournament favourite Mary Karano who finished behind the 14 year old Naomi Wafula during last year’s event once was not luck enough again this year as she posted gross 78 to lose to Maina on countback for the second prize.

Taking the overall nett title in the Silver Division was another Kiambu golfer Lucy Karau who fired nett 69 to win by a shot from Gladys Athiru while Lauren Gibson was third on 71 after beating Karen’s Wanjira Kireri and Muthaiga’s Jaswant Vohora on countback.

Kenya Re chairman Nelius Kariuki won the Bronze title with a score of 92 gross though after beating Wamaitha Muthumu on countback.

Rosemary Olonde was next on 93 for the third place. The nett champion in the Bronze division is Vet Lab’s Rahab Waitete who fired 68 nett to win by a shot from Catherine Ngurani (69) as Jane Wokabi on 70 nett finished third.

This year the Mixed Foursomes title was won by Margaret Mbugua and John Ngure with 34 points following a countback with the pair of Mary Karano and Njogu Njoroge.

Finishing in third place was Lucy Karau and L. Ngige on 33. The men’s medal subsidiary title went to Fredrick Njoroge on 71 nett beating Kariuki Kinuthia on count back and in third place was Bernard Wainaina on 72 nett.
