Despite the morning drizzle, home golfer Anthony Gicheru managed to produce an impressive round of 42 stableford points to claim the overall title in the 2014/2015 Safaricom Business Challenge grand finale at Karen Country Club.

Playing off handicap nine, Gicheru put together 20 points in the opening nine that included a couple of birdies, and a closing strong 22 to walk away with a Samsung Galaxy S5, a trophy and Safaricom Air time worth Sh10,000.

“It was a great outing for me and thanks to a great four ball, I was able to bring a fine score despite the drizzle in the morning’’ said Gicheru.

But he was not the only on fire as club-mate David Lowe also posted an impressive 42 points though lost the overall title to Gicheru on countback, to settle for the men’s first prize.

Karen players, understandably, dominated the prize list as Githinji Muteithi on 39 points came home second in the men’s section while leading the ladies on 38 was Margaret Thande.

The Junior title went to Brian Sifuna with 34 points, while winning the staff  prize was David Kabage with 28 points.

Some 170 golfers participated in the tournament drawn from various clubs across the country.
