Long hitting Dismas Indiza walked away with the 2014 Royal Nairobi Golf Club Chairman’s Prize title despite his poor show during Tuesday’s final round of the event at the par 72 Royal course.

The Mumias pro Indiza, who started the final round with a five shots lead, picked up five bogeys with only a single birdie to count for a four over par 76 and a total of four under par 140 to win the first prize of Sh72,000.

“I had an awful day and it’s only because of my first round score that I was still able to win by four shots,” said Indiza who managed to birdie the par five-14th after bogeying the second, fourth, and 10th and later on the 16th and 17th.

“My drivers were all going left hence I was playing recovery golf throughout the round, having missed many fairways,” said Indiza, who thanked Njue and the club chairman Odongo Mark Okeyo for inviting the pros to play in the event.

“Such events help us to prepare for international tournaments in and outside the country and we are very grateful to the two gentlemen,” he said.

His playing partner, Njuguna Ngugi, had an equally bad day.

MONEY LIST

Ngugi birdied only the 17th and dropped shots over the eighth, 11th, 13th and 15th for three over par 75 which gave him a total of level par 144 to tie for the second place with Nyali Golf and Country Club’s Kopan Timbe and Nyanza’s David Odhiambo.

Timbe shot his second level par 72 in the event having birdied three holes all in the front nine where he also bogeyed the sixth, in addition to late bogeys (13th, 17th) at the back nine.

Odhiambo had six birdies, the highest number for the day, but he also bogeyed two holes for two under par 70, the only below par score of the day to join Timbe and Ngugi on 144.

A total of 13 players with scores of 150 and better out of the field of 35 pros made it to the money list.

The pros now give room to the club members, guests and 60 caddies for tomorrow’s first round of the Toyota Kenya sponsored tournament whose final round will be on Sunday.
